Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro/Spine (5S) – St. Elizabeth Youngstown

Mercy Health invites applications for the Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro/Spine (5S) – St. Elizabeth Youngstown role. The position is full‑time, overnight shift, caring for neuro/spine injuries and post‑operative patients in a 5‑S medical/surgical unit.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and document complete patient assessments.
  • Initiate and maintain nursing care plans for all assigned patients.
  • Administer medications safely in accordance with Mercy Health policies.
  • Provide individualized and comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
  • Serve as a point of contact for care coordination throughout hospital departments.
  • Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Advocate for patients in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to establish goals and strategies for patient discharge or continuing care needs.
Qualifications
  • Current RN license in Ohio or covered by a license compact (required).
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; ACLS acceptable in lieu of BLS).
  • RN‑BC or other critical care certification (preferred).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
  • Minimum one year of RN experience (acquired in a 5‑S or acute care hospital setting).
  • Strong evidence‑based clinical knowledge and proficiency in the nursing process.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under high stress, manage fluctuating workloads, and maintain patient safety.
