The New‑to‑Practice Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) provides, coordinates, plans, and evaluates nursing care within established procedures, professional standards, and organizational policies. EssentialJob Functions
- Collaborate with an experienced Stepdown RN and interdisciplinary team members to demonstrate safe basic knowledge of contemporary nursing practice.
- Apply nursing process with patients of all ages and populations.
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyze data, create a plan of care, implement treatment, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Administer medications safely in accordance with state practice and BSMH policies.
- Serve as point of contact for patient care coordination throughout hospital departments.
- Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement and collaborating with spiritual care, palliative, and ethics when needed.
- Serve as a point person for care coordination for family members or caregivers.
- Clinically manage patients with multi‑system organ failure and/or multisystem trauma.
- Use the AACN Synergy Model to restore, support, promote, rehabilitate, or palliate to maintain patients’ physiologic, psychologic, and psychosocial stability across the lifespan.
- Synthesize and prioritize information to take immediate, evidence‑based, patient‑focused action using clinical judgment.
- Anticipate and respond with confidence and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Respond to the unique needs of patients and families coping with unanticipated illness or injury, advocating for their choices in quality of life.
- Current RN license in state of employment, compact, or RN applicant (required).
- BLS Basic Life Support or ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred at hire; must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS required within 6 months of hire).
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
Work ExperiencePrevious experience as an LPN or Patient Care Tech/CNA (preferred).
Training- EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred).
- Completion of RN Residency Program within 18 months of hire (required).
- Possesses clinical knowledge, skills, and competency for evidence‑based patient care in accordance with BSMH mission.
- Performs comprehensive assessment of patient’s clinical condition and psychosocial needs.
- Safely and efficiently develops, implements, and prioritizes plan of care.
- Applies nursing process in patient care delivery.
- Assesses patient response, revises plan of care accordingly.
- Assists patient and family in coping with illness.
- Collaborates with others for coordinated patient care.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
