SummaryThe Registered Nurse (Medical/Surgical) functions as a care provider within a multidisciplinary team, delivering patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN demonstrates knowledge of age and cultural diversity in patient care, strong time management and prioritization, participates in quality improvement initiatives, collaborates with other professional disciplines, and supports the mission to provide physical and psychological support to patients and families.

Essential Job Functions- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to establish goals and strategies for meeting discharge or continuing care needs with the patient.
- Performs and documents complete patient assessments and maintains current nursing care plans for all assigned patients.
- Identifies patient learning needs to provide individualized and comprehensive teaching.
- Administers medications safely in accordance with state practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies.
- Serves as a point of contact for patient care coordination throughout hospital departments.
- Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement and acts as a patient advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics.

Licensing/Certification- Current RN license in the state of practice or covered by compact (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS acceptable in lieu of BLS)
- Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification RN-BC (preferred)
- CCRN (preferred)
- PCCN (preferred)
- CMSRN (preferred)
- NIH Stroke Certification (preferred)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- One year of RN experience (required) or new grads/RN's with less than 1 year experience accepted
- Six months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred)
- Assigns patient care according to nursing scope of practice
- Educates nursing staff and others based on quality improvement indicators and outcomes
- Provides evidence-based patient care per current standards of practice and policies
- Performs comprehensive assessments of clinical condition and psychosocial needs
- Develops, implements, and prioritizes plans of care
- Applies the nursing process in patient care delivery
- Evaluates treatment responses and revises care plans accordingly
- Assists patients and families in coping with illness
- Collaborates with others to deliver coordinated patient care
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Applies cultural diversity and inclusion principles
- Recognizes limitations and seeks assistance to perform safely
- Engages in ongoing professional development and professional growth
- Maintains professionalism and accountability in actions
