OverviewThe RN Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for the organization. The primary function is to be available and flexible to float to various departments and sites throughout the markets within the organization to provide patient care. This may include staffing the day of staffing, multiple assignment locations within a single shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns.
The RN floats under the direction of a clinical manager or designee as defined by the Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse.
- Float within assigned tiers and across multiple units/sites as needed.
- Support organizational goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities.
- Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department.
- Incorporate the professional practice model into care delivery.
- Plan and coordinate nursing care using the best available evidence.
- Formulate and implement a plan of care for each patient, including interventions, evaluation and documentation appropriate to condition and age.
- Licensing/Certification
- Current nursing license in the designated state of employment (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS or PALS (preferred at hire; must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS or PALS required based on specialty assignment)
- Education
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (required)
- Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) (preferred)
- Patient Population
- Care knowledge appropriate to the age of patients served on assigned unit, including neonates, pediatrics, adults and geriatrics as applicable.
- Ability to assess data reflective of patient status and determine patient requirements according to age and departmental policies.
- Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads.
- Possible travel to off-site locations; not to exceed 10% travel.
- May be exposed to high noise levels, bright lights, and potentially infectious materials.
- May be exposed to physical confrontations and verbal abuse.
- May require use of personal protective equipment and adherence to infection control policies.
