Registered Nurse (RN) Weekend Only - PCCU 6SE - St. Elizabeth Youngstown

Overview

The Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifying and determining the priority of patient’s problems/needs, and evaluating the process and outcome of nursing care, all in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. The RN coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.

RNs in the Weekend Only program work Friday 3 p.m. to Monday 7 a.m. Weekend Program differential applies for eligible hours worked. Additional shifts Monday to Thursday may be picked up and paid at base pay rate, in addition to any applicable shift differential or incentive pay.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness
  • Administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health policies and procedures
  • Serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments
  • Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department
  • Serves as patient advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics
  • Serves as a point of care with care coordination and family members or caregivers
  • Clinically manages patients with multi-system organ failure and/or multisystem trauma
  • Using the AACN Synergy Model, restores, supports, promotes, rehabilitates, or palliates to maintain stability across the lifespan
  • Synthesizes and prioritizes information to take immediate, evidence-based action
  • Anticipates and responds to rapidly changing patient conditions
  • Supports patients and families coping with illness or injury and advocates for quality of life
  • Practices and delivers care in accordance with the BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model
Licensing/Certification
  • Current RN license in state of employment or eligible by compact (required)
  • BLS; ACLS (preferred at hire; must obtain prior to direct patient care; ACLS required within 6 months of hire)
  • CCRN (preferred); PCCN (preferred); NIH Stroke Certification (preferred)
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Work Experience
  • 1 year of RN experience (required). New grads or nurses with less than 1 year experience may be considered
  • 6 months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred)
Training
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
  • Critical Care Course (preferred)
Skills
  • Assigns patient care according to nursing scope and staff competency
  • Educates nursing staff and others based on quality indicators and outcomes
  • Provides evidence-based patient care per current standards, policies, procedures, and BSMH mission
  • Performs comprehensive assessment of clinical condition and psychosocial needs
  • Develops, implements, and prioritizes care plans; assesses responses and revises as needed
  • Collaborates with care teams and supports patients and families
  • Strong communication, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism
  • Resilience and ability to stay calm under emergency conditions
  • Knowledge of advanced respiratory modalities and chest tube management
Working Conditions
  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads
  • Possible exposure to physical altercations and verbal abuse
  • May be required to use physical restraints
  • May be exposed to high noise levels, bright lights, hazardous substances or body fluids
  • May have frequent interruptions; universal precautions and infection control policies apply
