Primary

Function/General Purpose Of Position

The RN Stroke Program Coordinator is responsible for managing and improving stroke care for patients prehospital, during hospital stay and post discharge; staff education and community outreach programs related to stroke prevention and treatment. The coordinator acts as a liaison between healthcare professionals involved in stroke care, ensuring that patients receive timely and high-quality treatment. The coordinator develops and implements stroke program policies and procedures and monitors and evaluates program performance to ensure the stroke program meets regulatory requirements and standards for accreditation.

Job Functions
  • Coordinates program growth and development by researching, benchmarking, piloting, process improvement, data analyzing, relationship building, sharing, teaching, building, documenting, and accrediting.
  • Manages all neuroscience community education activities internally and within the community, collaborating with other market entities.
  • Facilitates education activities for physicians, nursing, emergency medical services, and ancillary departments involved in neuroscience patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Stroke Program's Medical Director and Co-Chairs the Stroke Committee.
  • Motivates associates to participate in activities that benefit the community.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of neuroscience patient care and works with nursing leadership to maintain quality levels of neuro/stroke care.
  • Under the guidance of quality and leadership, coordinates all stroke specific survey or accreditation efforts.
  • Serves as a liaison between the hospital(s) and local fire and EMS organizations.

Licensing/Certification

Current RN License in the state in which they are working or covered by compact (required).

BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required).

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required).

Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration or Nursing (preferred).

Work Experience
  • 5 years' experience in Neuroscience, Emergency, or Critical Care nursing (required).
  • 2 years' experience in patient care management or supervision (preferred).

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
