Dietary Aide LTC

Job Summary

The Dietary Aide supports the nutritional needs of residents in a long-term care facility by assisting with food preparation, meal service, sanitation, and resident interaction. This role ensures meals are prepared and served safely, accurately, and in accordance with residents’ dietary requirements, care plans, and regulatory standards.

• Assist in preparing and serving meals according to standardized recipes and planned menus
• Set up meal trays and dining areas according to resident diet orders and preferences
• Deliver meal trays to residents in a timely and courteous manner
• Assist residents with meals as needed, following facility policies
• Ensure correct portion sizes and special diets (e.g., mechanical soft, pureed, diabetic, renal) are followed
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dining areas, and equipment
• Wash dishes, utensils, and food service equipment according to infection control standards
• Store food properly and label items according to facility and health department guidelines
• Report any concerns related to resident intake, food preferences, or swallowing difficulties to nursing staff
• Follow all safety, infection control, and HIPAA regulations
• Assist with inventory, stocking supplies, and receiving food deliveries
• Participate in quality improvement and in-service training as required

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous food service experience, especially in healthcare or long-term care, preferred
• Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Compassionate and respectful attitude toward elderly and disabled residents
