Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Practice | North Yorkshire | No OOH
Salary up to £65,000 FTE | Flexible Rota | Leadership Opportunity
An independent mixed veterinary practice in North Yorkshire is seeking an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly and progressive team. Based in a busy market town between York and Thirsk, this role offers an excellent quality of life alongside a rewarding and varied clinical caseload. - Part‑time position – 30 hours per week
- 3–4 days per week with flexibility on how hours are taken
- Working hours:
8:30am–6:00pm, Monday to Friday- Friday working is essential and will occasionally involve sole charge
- No out‑of‑hours work (NO OOH) – covered by the mixed vet rota
- Occasional Saturday morning cover required
- Excellent salary up to £65,000 FTE, dependent on experience
- Flexible CPD budget to support clinical interests and career progression
- 20‑minute consultations, regular breaks, and protected time for case work‑ups
- Varied small animal caseload, with many cases worked up in‑house
- Modern facilities and equipment, including:
- Mindray cart‑based ultrasound for abdominal and cardiac scanning
- A genuinely supportive and collaborative team culture
The successful candidate will join a dedicated small animal department consisting of three permanent small‑animal‑only vets, working alongside the wider mixed team. Clinical support includes:
- An RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine
- A vet holding a PGCert in Small Animal Dentistry

About You – Ideal Candidate- Experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon with 4+ years’ UK experience
- Confident in routine surgeries and common emergency procedures
- Strong consulting and communication skills
- Comfortable providing leadership and helping to run a small team
- Enjoys mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues
- A positive, flexible team player with a strong work ethic
- Independent practice with clinical freedom
- No OOH and a healthy work–life balance
