We are excited to hire a full-time, Paralegal to join our team in the County Attorney s Office! In this position, you will provide responsible, confidential, and complex paralegal support to the department and attorneys; to provide case management and other specialized duties required to maintain an efficient governmental legal office.
Projected Salary Range/Pay Grade (112): $21.42 - $25.70 per hour. Salary determined based on experience and education.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (40 hours per week).
Duties and Responsibilities- Establishes, maintains, and closes out case files, and prepares all necessary forms for the disposition of cases. Research case materials, recorded documents, laws/codes/statutes, legal opinions, prior judgments, and other resources to obtain information to support legal cases.
- Performs data entry to record and retrieve pertinent case information; reviews, analyzes, and classifies information to be entered into computer database, scans information into computer as appropriate, and ensures all information is accurate and up to date.
- Prepares, composes, types, processes, proofreads, copies, files, and/or transmits various documents, including but not limited to subpoenas, affidavits, warrants, bond forms, statements, declarations, summonses, complaints, petitions, legal motions, court orders, discovery notices, legal briefs, pleadings, indictments, dockets, drug reports, dispositions, and other critical legal documents; serves subpoenas. Performs routine clerical/secretarial work as required, which may include, but is not limited to, copying and filing documents, scanning documents, transcribing dictation, scheduling appointments, maintaining filing systems, entering computer data and maintaining databases, reviewing and processing mail, sending and receiving faxes, running errands, etc.
- Schedules and confirms dates for depositions, hearings, trials, and other actions.
- Receives and determines the appropriateness of requests for information, releases information to the public, attorneys, and defendants according to established guidelines.
- Routinely interacts with the public, elected public officials, department heads and county staff.
- Answers the telephone, provides information and assistance to callers or forwards calls to appropriate staff person.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Associates Degree preferred or Paralegal Studies Certification from an accredited institution.
- Three (3) years of experience providing paralegal or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- SC Notary Public Certification.
Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
