Summary

Catawba Nuclear Plant is seeking a Mechanical Component Engineer to join the Plant Engineering - Maintenance Support Engineering team. These roles offer the opportunity to contribute to the long‑term reliability and performance of critical plant components—including pumps, valves, and heat exchangers—with a highly regulated and technically rigorous environment. As part of the engineering team the candidate will directly support the preventive maintenance program, monitoring and trending of equipment performance, provide technical oversight and engineering support to operations and maintenance organizations, and set the direction for the strategic long‑term planning of power plant equipment to ensure optimum equipment reliability.

This is the junior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level possess understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. Incumbents are expected to use engineering practices to research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, prepare and present recommendations to engineering and site management.

You will also work inside an operating power plant offering fieldwork experience, inspections, and walkdowns while the nuclear station provides life‑essential electricity to the surrounding community and power grid.

This position offers a 4‑day 10h workweek (Mon‑Thurs) with a hybrid work schedule (at least 2 of 4 days are in the office, the others may be taken at home). As a Duke Energy employee, you are offered a package of Paid Time Off / Vacation in addition to Holidays, Sick Time, and Dependent Care. Responsibilities
  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

  • Graduation from a four‑year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the
