Position: Civil Engineering Co-Op/Internship - Summer 2026

Position summary:

Responsible for various tasks and projects to enhance their experience in the civil engineering field utilizing their education. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential functions and responsibilities

* Perform field investigations and document site conditions

* Perform basic engineering computations related to multiple civil engineering projects

* Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals

* Assist with layout and design of engineering projects

* Make edits and updates to existing engineering construction drawings and calculations

* Assist with the development of civil engineering design reports and appendices

* Assist with the development and preparation of specifications and engineering cost estimates

* Assist with administrative duties

* Maintain accurate and current project documentation

Nonessential functions and responsibilities

* Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

* Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

* Valid driver's license required

Required Experience

* Full-time student currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program

Qualifications Preferred

* Coursework in related field

* Previous internship experience

* Basic AutoCAD and/or Micro Station experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
