The ESY Teacher is responsible for the direct delivery of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) as outlined in the ESY section of each student’s IEP. The primary focus of this role is the maintenance of previously mastered skills and the prevention of significant regression in critical life areas, ensuring students are prepared for a successful transition back to school in the fall.

Implement individualized lesson plans that target specific ESY goals in areas such as literacy, mathematics, social-emotional learning, and functional life skills.
  • Regression/Recoupment Monitoring:
Conduct frequent, objective data collection on identified "at‑risk" skills to monitor for maintenance and guide instructional adjustments.
  • Supervision of Support Staff:
Provide daily direction and supervision to Educational Technicians (Ed Techs) to ensure accommodations and modifications are applied consistently.
  • Progress Reporting:
At the end of the session, provide a written summary for each student’s year‑round Case Manager, detailing performance levels and data related to their ESY benchmarks.
  • Classroom Management:
Maintain a highly structured, predictable environment that follows the student’s established behavioral and sensory protocols to minimize dysregulation.
Qualifications
  • Valid Maine Department of Education Certification (282 – Teacher of Children with Disabilities K‑12 or 283/conditional equivalent).
  • Experience with MUSER compliance and the ability to interpret and implement "Section 7" of the IEP.
