Overview
Position Summary Fabricate special positioning devices, and other adapted equipment as per the needs of the children/residents of the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center. To provide assistance and guidance to the therapy staff in all aspects of fabrication of adapted equipment.
Responsibilities- Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures and everyday practices.

- Treat every resident, family member, and co-worker with dignity, respect, and courtesy.
- Fabricate prescribed adaptive positioning devices upon receipt of specifications as per work orders (measure, outline, cut, sew, drill, hammer, screw) and use of workshop machinery and industrial sewing machine.
- Repair, make necessary revisions to, and provide maintenance of devices upon receipt of work order.
- Dispense equipment to therapists/neighborhoods upon completion (all work requested is done, item is clean, safe, name tags on all pieces, paperwork completed).
- Attend in-house adaptive equipment clinics to assess seating needs.
- Provide emergency repairs of wheelchairs and positioning devices as needed.
- Assist in the inventory and organization of adaptive equipment workshop and tools/supplies on an ongoing basis.
- Understand and be involved in inventory/maintenance of the adapted equipment workshop.
- Input in purchasing of supplies for adaptive equipment workshop.
- Maintain and track the return of equipment no longer used by residents in the facility as well as residents discharged from the facility.
- Maintenance review of all equipment returned to inventory.
- Work in a proficient and cost-effective manner as is required for the adapted equipment workshop.
- Participate in in-service education to enhance clinical and professional competence.
- Assist the adaptive equipment and rehabilitation staff as needed. Contribute to and promote a collaborative work environment. Exchange of skills and procedures is important for this niche role.
- Prioritize work orders for repairs and complete as per need.
- Complete work order documentation as jobs are completed and ready for fittings and/or being dispensed.
- Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other Pediatric Center policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with residents and their families.
- Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Experience working with complex rehabilitation technology, with adaptive equipment such as tilt in space and power wheelchairs; use of tools required for the fabrication and repair of wheelchair and other adaptive equipment.
- Strong preference for individuals with industrial sewing experience and/or automotive, marine, or airplane upholstery.
- Strong experience with craftsmanship and carpentry skills.
- Strong communication skills, adaptable learner and attentive listener with critical and creative thinking ability.
- Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical issues.
- Experience with 3D printing and Computer aided design (CAD) is a plus.
Employee Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
- Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.
- Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
- Will be subject to frequent interruptions.
- May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
$35.01/Hr. To $37.32/Hr.
