Certified Nursing Assistant - Full Time Day, Evening & Night Shifts Position Summary
Serves as a clinical assistant to the licensed nursing staff by performing nursing procedures, basic patient care tasks in a manner that is reflective of the ESC Core Values under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
Job Functions & Responsibilities- Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures.
- Report on and off duty to NCC.
- Performs assigned duties under the direction of the NCC or her designee (i.e. the nurse in charge).
- Takes report and makes rounds on assigned residents.
- Prepares and transports residents to therapy in a timely manner.
- Is responsible for the care and safety of assigned resident until relieved by oncoming caregiver.
- Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan including rehabilitation and continuous learning for the residents within the CNA scope under the direction of the RN or LPN.
- Provides or assists residents with activities of daily living.
- Performs therapeutic procedures for children such as bathing, grooming, playing, feeding, positioning as per policy and procedure.
- Documents appropriately on all flow sheets.
- Assists RN and LPN as necessary in the performance of nursing care tasks.
- Observes, reports and records abnormal vital signs, temperatures, seizures activity, vomiting, diarrhea, behavior changes or any other abnormalities to the RN or LPN in charge.
- Attends appropriate meetings and in‑services.
- Functions as an adult role model for residents.
- Performs all assigned duties in accordance with the Center for Pediatrics and Rehabilitation’s policy and procedures.
- Baths residents according to the Center for Pediatrics and Rehabilitation policy and procedure.
- Inspects resident’s skin and promptly reports any changes to the NCC.
- Carries out mouth care, hair care and as necessary trim finger and toe nails.
- Makes two hourly checks on incontinent residents and washes and changes as necessary.
- Encourages self‑help measures as appropriate so that each child may reach his/her appropriate level of independence.
- Checks and records urine and bowel movements.
- Ensures that assigned residents are appropriately prepared for school, clinic, recreation and hospital visits as scheduled and accompanies/ transports them as assigned.
- Ensures that bedfast residents are repositioned as directed by NCC but not less than two repositions per resident hourly.
- Performs restorative and rehabilitative activities as instructed and as directed by Plan of Care.
- Assists in applying safety restraints to residents when directed; monitors residents in restraints, releases restraints and documents according to policy and procedure.
- Ensures that each resident who can use a call bell has one within reach and reminds him/her to use it.
- Assists co‑workers with lifting, positioning and other procedures as necessary.
- Is aware of facility policy on child abuse and/or neglect and promptly reports any instances of abusive or inappropriate behaviors towards any resident to the NCC.
- Knows and follows The Center policy and procedure with regard to infection control including hand washing and types of isolation.
- Keeps resident care area clean and free of clutter.
- Reports any unsafe conditions immediately to NCC.
- Properly stores and safeguards residents’ clothing and reports too many or too few clothing and/or toys to NCC.
- Feeds residents or teaches residents to feed themselves as appropriate.
- Ensures that hands are washed (child and caregivers) and that meal times are pleasant, dignified experiences.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of NYS approved Nurse Assistant Certification Program.
- Active CNA Certification on NYS Nurse Aide Registry required.
- Experience working with children.
- One year of experience as Nurse’s Aide preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty‑five (35) pounds.
- Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.
- Will work in a well‑lighted and ventilated area.
- Will be subject to frequent interruptions.
- May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
$24.31/hr to $26.06/hr
Additional 10% shift differential for Evening and Night only.
1199 Union Benefits.
Shifts AvailableDay: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Evening: 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
Night: 11:00 pm – 7:30 am
Up to $4,000 sign‑on bonus for approved shifts.
