The Empress Emergency Medical Services EMS Academy Instructor is responsible for the instructional development of Academy Students, preparing them for the New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) State Exam. Under the direction of the Course Sponsor and Director of Clinical Education, the Course Instructor organizes, administers, and assesses training curriculum in accordance with New York State guidelines and protocols.
Main Duties And Responsibilities- Ensures that course content follows New York State requirements, guidelines and protocols.
- Prepares and develops course content including lesson plans and teaching aids such as handbooks, demonstration models and multimedia visual aids to achieve instructional goals.
- Attends all course sessions.
- Provides lectures and conducts or co‑conducts training sessions as needed.
- Participates in scheduling and coordination of classes, training sessions, supplemental courses, and evaluation meetings in accordance with applicable guidelines.
- Tests and evaluates students to measure learning progress and training effectiveness.
- Provides trainees with information about course policies and performance feedback, and offers remedial or tutoring help and counseling as needed.
- Maintains records of trainee enrollment, attendance and performance.
- Submits enrollment, attendance and performance records to the Course Sponsor Administrator once courses are completed or upon request.
- Acts as liaison between trainees, the CSA, clinical preceptors, and the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Current New York State Certification (EMT-B or EMT-P) and current CPR Certification.
- Satisfactorily completes all aspects of the pre‑employment process, including drug screening/background check.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
Works indoor in a classroom setting with occasional exposure to outside hazardous conditions, blood/body fluids, respirator use, fumes, odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face‑to‑face contact with noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment.
Physical RequirementsRequired to use hands to handle, reach, talk or hear; stand, walk, sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch; frequently lift and carry up to 125 pounds; up to 300 pounds as part of a two‑person crew. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
