Junior Property Accountant – Affordable Housing Portfolio

Location: New York, NY – On-Site

Compensation: Up to $60,000

About the Opportunity

A well-established and growing property management firm is seeking a Junior Property Accountant to support the financial operations of a diverse residential portfolio across New York.

The organization manages a large portfolio of rental communities and is known for its long-standing presence in the market, operational stability, and hands-on approach to property management.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to gain exposure to full-cycle property accounting within a structured and supportive environment.

The Role

The Junior Property Accountant will support the accounting team with day-to-day financial operations across multiple properties. This role will assist with general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, and month-end close processes.

Working closely with senior accountants and property managers, the position offers strong development potential for someone looking to build a long-term career in real estate accounting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with month-end close, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Support general ledger maintenance and financial reporting processes
  • Process accounts payable invoices and vendor payments
  • Assist with accounts receivable, including rent postings and cash applications
  • Reconcile bank accounts and review property-level transactions
  • Help maintain accurate tenant ledgers and support rent roll reviews
  • Assist with intercompany transactions and supporting schedules
  • Provide ad-hoc accounting and administrative support to the finance team
Candidate Profile
  • 1–2 years of accounting experience (property accounting exposure preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and general ledger processes
  • Experience with property management software is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Proficient in Excel
