This is a temporary contract position to provide research assistance for an evaluation of a sexual health campaign in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories between March - May 2026. There are two positions available.

The Youth Research Assistants will be responsible for working together to recruit youth, especially young women (aged 16-24), in Yellowknife to complete a brief survey about attitudes and knowledge about STI testing.

The sexual health campaign is tentatively scheduled to run for 4 weeks from April 27 - May 29, 2026, and the surveys will run twice in the 3-4 weeks immediately before and after the campaign.

The primary goal of the Youth Research Assistants is to ensure as many youth and young women in Yellowknife complete the surveys as is possible. We are aiming to get 200 valid responses to each survey.

The work will take place
1) on various online platforms,
2) by phone and email, and
3) in the community at various events and locations across Yellowknife.

  • Actively engaged in youth communities in Yellowknife
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Confidence and the ability to work independently
  • Interested in and knowledge of community-based research, including surveys (experience would be an asset)
  • Interested in sexual health education
  • Basic understanding and commitment to research ethics, privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable access to your own computer and internet
  • Digital literacy, social media and web skills

Compensation

$25/hour

The maximum number of hours for each Youth Research Assistant is 40 over the duration of the contract, from March 2026 to early June 2026. Slightly more than half of the hours will be required mid
- March to mid-April (prior to the campaign) and the remainder in the last week of May to mid-June (after the campaign).
