The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Superintendent, Demolition and Contracted Works
, to provide direction and supervision of the Diavik Project team, oversight of the site’s contracted demolition scope and other closure related project contractors.

This role will be primarily responsible for oversight and management of the Demolition Contractor, encompassing safety compliance, performance monitoring and management, as well as contract administration across all project phases from initial planning through execution and completion. This role is also responsible for directly managing other Diavik closure projects, including engineering and survey teams, earthworks planning, and contractors for certain decommissioning scopes.

The Superintendent will play a key role in managing the integration between Diavik-directed scopes and the Demolition Contractor’s works occurring simultaneously.

This position requires strong leadership, communication skills, technical knowledge, commercial acumen, cost control, schedule management, problem‑solving, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and diverse teams.

Reporting to the Manager, Project Delivery and Surface Operations, based at the Lac de Gras Diavik Mine site, the role follows a 2‑week‑on / 2‑week‑off rotational schedule.

Main Responsibilities
  • Providing oversight and governance to the Demolition contractor, observing and reporting on adherence to safety protocols, project plans, and contractual obligations.
  • Directly supervising project teams and other contracted services involved in demolition and closure related activities.
  • Ensuring full compliance with Rio Tinto's safety standards and procedures, actively promoting a safety‑first culture on site.
  • Collaboration on development, and contribution to the implementation of detailed demolition plans, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Monitoring and ensuring adherence to project drawings, specifications, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Leading and participating in constructability/demolition reviews, and job hazard analysis processes related to demolition and contracted works.
  • Managing the integration and coordination of demolition activities with other ongoing closure projects and operational activities, executed by Diavik or other contractor teams.
  • Implementing effective cost control measures and proactively identifying and addressing potential cost overruns.
  • Monitoring and managing project schedules, identifying potential delays, and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Facilitating clear and effective communication between the demolition contractor, Diavik Project teams, and other stakeholders.
