Job Description & How to Apply Below

Yakima Country Club | Yakima, Washington
Position Overview

Yakima Country Club is seeking a motivated and career-driven Assistant in Training (AIT) to join our Grounds Department. This position is designed for individuals pursuing a long-term career in golf course agronomy and management. The AIT will work directly under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, gaining hands‑on experience in all aspects of golf course maintenance, agronomic programs, leadership development, and daily operations at a premier private club.

This is a developmental position with structured training, mentorship, and exposure to advanced turf management practices.

Job Description / Responsibilities

The Assistant in Training will assist with and learn all facets of golf course maintenance, including but not limited to:

  • Daily golf course setup and presentation
  • Turf maintenance practices for greens, tees, fairways, and roughs
  • Mowing, rolling, topdressing, aerification, seeding, and cultural practices
  • Irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Chemical and fertilizer applications (training toward applicator licensing)
  • Equipment operation, care, and safety compliance
  • Crew supervision and task delegation as skills develop
  • Participation in safety programs, SOPs, and training initiatives
  • Exposure to budgeting, planning, and long‑term agronomic strategy
  • Working closely with leadership to develop management, communication, and decision‑making skills

Yakima Country Club was established in 1916 as a nine‑hole golf club and expanded to 18 holes in 1954 by golf architect A.V. Macan. His vision transformed the course into a classic private club, thoughtfully routed through the natural terrain and rolling hills while preserving the inherent beauty of the Yakima Valley.

Today, we are awaiting approval to bring in an architect to further restore and enhance the golf course in alignment with Macan’s original design intent across all holes. In 2022, all greens were fully rebuilt and re‑grassed with Pure Distinction bentgrass, and a multi‑year greenside bunker renovation program is currently underway.

  • Must posses a WSDA Pesticide License within 90 days
