Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Emergency Department position requiring at least 3 years of high-acuity ED experience and multiple emergency certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a large, high-acuity Emergency Department (ED) within a Level III trauma center
- Patient population includes neonate to geriatric, stroke, cardiac, trauma, pediatrics, behavioral health, and substance use disorder
- Busiest ED in the state with 34 beds plus an additional 12 hallway beds
- Patient ratios are typically 1:3-5 based on acuity, with a fast track area in the 'green zone' comprising 13 beds
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts with variable start times; weekend rotation required every other weekend
- Holiday coverage expected for 1-2 holidays per contract
- No floating required
- Responsibilities include caring for diverse and high-acuity patient populations, assisting with trauma and code cases, and managing medication drips
- RN is responsible for drawing their own labs on night shifts
- Support includes 3 ED techs, medical assistant, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse without patient load, phlebotomy until 2300, hospitalists, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and 24/7 security
- Initial hospital orientation followed by 1-2 shifts on the floor with a preceptor, with independent patient assignment and resource buddy support
- Schedule is posted 6 weeks in advance in a 6-week cycle
- Scrub color is flexible but must not include logos
- Parking is free
- Active WA or compact RN license
- Minimum 3 years of recent ED experience in a large volume, high-acuity setting
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC
- Experience with critical care, pediatric emergency, trauma, chest tubes, arterial lines, blood administration, Bipap/ventilators, splinting, medication drips, and triage
- Must have barcode medication administration experience
- Must pass hospital's triage test prior to independent triage assignment
- Strong understanding of ESI required
- Epic EMR experience is strongly recommended
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
