High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
** AND
* * seven (7) years of construction experience as a contractor, construction worker, superintendent, foreman, engineer, architect,  construction plans designer or in a journey level trade;
** OR
* * an Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in Construction, Construction Management, Building Code Technology, Engineering, or Architecture or any other building construction related industry
** AND
* * five (5) years of applicable work experience is preferred.
* valid WA State Driver’s License and proof of insurance, if requested;
* successful completion of a criminal background investigation and general employment of verification;
* ability to obtain Yakima County Sheriff’s Office deputation as Special Deputy with limited commission with 3 months of employment; and,
* ICC Certified:
Residential Building Inspector or Commercial Building Inspector or Residential Plans Examiner or Building Plans Examiner required within one year of appointment.
* Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in Construction, Construction Management, Building Code Technology, Engineering, or Architecture or any other building construction-related industry;
* ability to speak and understand Spanish;
* ability to read and interpret construction drawings;
* work experience as a Building Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, or other building construction-related industry;
* experience working with an integrated permit management system such as (Accela);
* experience working with International codes and standards; and,
* ICC Certified:
Residential Building Inspector or Commercial Building Inspector or Mechanical Inspector or Plumbing Inspector or Residential Plans Examiner or Building Plans Examiner or Fire Inspector at time of appointment.
* ability to make decisions based on legal guidelines;
* reading building and construction plans, blue prints, maps, plats and charts;
* applying customer service techniques;
* working as a member of a team;
* making and communicating recommendations for improvements and compliance;
* interpreting and applying codes, standards, and ordinances;
* preparing and presenting oral and written reports and written correspondence;
* locating and diagnosing existing and potentially hazardous conditions;
* establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with County and other officials and with the general public;
* communicating both verbally and in writing;
* maintaining records and performing mathematical calculations;
* using personal computers and related software applications, measuring devices, and basic office equipment; and,
