Patient Care Assistant - Surgical Institute of Reading
We are hiring a full-time Patient Care Assistant at the Surgical Institute of Reading (SIR). SIR is accredited by The Joint Commission and ranks among the top 100 hospitals for total joint replacement and spine surgery.
OverviewSIR offers a high quality, service‑oriented environment for surgical procedures. The facility has five operating rooms and one procedure room covering specialties such as anesthesia, gynecology, orthopedics, pain management, plastic surgery, podiatry, general surgery, and spinal surgery.

The PCA supports nurses and the surgical team by preparing patients for procedures and providing exceptional care throughout the pre‑operative process. The role requires strong communication, patient‑focused service, and the ability to collaborate in a fast‑paced setting.
Responsibilities- Assist patients with pre‑operative preparation, including vital signs, medical histories, and documentation.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families before surgery.
- Prepare exam rooms and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are ready for patient care.
- Transport patients to and from pre‑op and post‑op areas as needed.
- Assist nursing staff with procedures under supervision, following established protocols.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in patient care areas.
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (occasional weekend hours).
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent required; CNA certification preferred.
- Previous experience in patient care, healthcare, or surgical settings preferred.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and pre‑operative procedures.
- Ability to follow directions, adhere to protocols, and maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients for extended periods.
- Patient‑focused care and strong bedside manner.
- Ability to take vital signs and perform basic patient assessments.
- Attention to detail and accurate documentation.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Effective teamwork and communication.
