Overview

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician (TNHM
05) to work in Lovell, Wyoming. This position performs a variety of highway maintenance duties under limited supervision to support WYDOT’s mission of providing a safe, efficient, and high-quality transportation system for the traveling public.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate complex equipment safely and proficiently. Train incumbents in the operation and maintenance of equipment. Provide work direction to Highway Maintenance Assistant employees. Under limited supervision, flag traffic and set up traffic control devices.
  • Operate single and tandem axle trucks, equipped with striper, auger, aerial lift equipment, plows, wing plow, sander, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from roadway surface.
  • Responsible for the rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and traffic control devices such as signs and highway striping.
  • Responsible for maintenance of equipment and facilities in rest areas, including water and wastewater treatment.
  • Attend and complete all required training to obtain/maintain required certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills.
  • Communicate information to update others as to work status and/or process effectiveness.
  • Utilize special computerized equipment.
  • Perform duties involved in removing snow and ice from roadways.
  • Responsible for adhering to all safety standards, policies, and procedures including the correct use of all associated personal protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License
  • Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.
  • Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Flagger certification.
Knowledge & Skills
  • State highway pavement marking and signing standards.
  • Specifications, standard plans, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and traffic control standards.
  • Equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Hazardous materials response procedures.
  • Federal and State requirements for proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders, and tractors.
  • Safe Work Procedures, First Aid and CPR, and Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals.
  • Office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephones.
  • Operating computer programs such as Google Suite and Microsoft Suite.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associate’s Degree (typically in Engineering) OR 2-4 years progressive work experience in Highway Maintenance/Construction with knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Assistant.
  • Experience:

    0-1 year progressive work experience in Highway Maintenance/Construction with knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Assistant.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Physical Working Conditions
  • Frequent use of manual and powered hand tools.
  • Daily use of motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Ability to independently lift and/or carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand/sit and operate equipment for long periods of timeli>
  • Work in adverse environmental conditions, including, but not be limited to, rain, snow, heat, and hail.
  • Ability to walk long periods of time on even and uneven ground.
  • Working around high‑speed traffic and heavy construction equipment.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.
