JOB TITLE

Journeyman Plumber

JOB PURPOSE

Perform journeyman-level plumbing work required to inspect, repair and maintain University water, gas, drainage, utility and heating systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and modify complex commercial and industrial mechanical systems such as regular utilities, heating, cooling, ventilating, process piping systems, pressure vessels, boilers, fire protection systems, temperature control systems, control valves, and all other plumbing fixtures on campus.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and modify the steam-generating, distribution and utilization system including both the high and low-pressure sides of the system.
  • Field design, layout, fabricate and install any and all of the systems listed above.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, sketches and plans to determine equipment and materials required and appropriate methods of installation.
  • Use rule, spirit level and plumb bob to locate passages for pipe through walls and floors.
  • Cut pipe passageways using manual and power tools; bend pipe using a bending machine or hand methods.
  • Join pipe using screws, bolts, solder, solvents, slip and threaded joint fitting, and caulking.
  • Inspect gas heating and water systems for damage including unsafe or unsanitary conditions, or for building code violations; recommend or take remedial action to bring gas heating and water systems to appropriate levels of safety and sanitation.
  • Perform work in specialized plumbing areas by replacing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, hot water tanks, water treatment equipment, clean and repair sewer lines, drains, traps, and septic tanks; install, repair, and maintain hot water and steam heating systems; install, repair, and maintain burning equipment such as furnaces, ranges, grills, and fryers; repair and maintain various types and sizes of pumps.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or GED, plus completion of an approved four-year apprenticeship program that meets their requirements to obtain journeyman-level status.

Experience:

3 years experience as a licensed journeyman-level plumber

Required license, certification, registration or other requirements:
