Overview
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: We are now seeking a Correctional Lieutenant for the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp in Newcastle, Wyoming
. The Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp (WHCC) is a minimum-level correctional facility responsible for housing nearly 300 inmates. This position will assist with supervising the security functions at the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp, ensuring employee, inmate, visitor, and community safety and security. The Correctional Lieutenant position reports to the Security Captain and oversees daily facility operations, assuring the safety and security of the facility is maintained.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
- Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment.
- Responsible for shift supervision, performance evaluations, and other personnel actions.
- Performs inmate disciplinary processes.
- Records related data on inmate grievances and disciplinary procedures for the Warden.
- Meets with staff and inmates to resolve grievances.
- Responsible for daily shift management, including proper staffing levels, resource placement, and utilization, and assignment to emergency functions.
- Conducts security audits to ensure the daily safety and security of the institution.
- Conducts post-inspections and daily checks of temporary protective custody inmates and maintains a logbook.
- Ensures policies and procedures are enforced and followed.
- Conducts random inspections of staff performing their duties to ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Responds to, controls, and commands minor and major incidents within the facility.
- Ensures reports are completed, accurately reflect what happened, and are submitted in accordance with policy.
- Attends, coordinates, and maintains training schedules as well as work rosters.
- Serves as the Emergency Coordinator and initial commander during a crisis.
- Performs all duties of officer, corporal, and sergeant.
- Performs special roles such as Disciplinary Sergeant, Training Coordinator, Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission Certified General Instructor, State Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Correctional Emergency Response Team Squad Leader, and Correctional Emergency Response Team Training Officer.
Preference may be given to applicants with 4-6 years of experience in Correctional Security with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Sergeant.
KNOWLEDGE- Knowledge of Department and institution-specific policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of prisoner behaviors and principles of offender management.
- Knowledge of concepts and contemporary practices in group management and control in correctional institutions.
- Knowledge of supervisor/subordinate interactions.
- Knowledge of work management; skill in leadership, planning, and staff utilization.
- Knowledge of identifying safety and security problems.
- Knowledge of investigation and interrogation processes.
Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)
Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience in Correctional Security with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Sergeant
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Correctional Officer Certification awarded by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission. Applicants not holding Wyoming POST certification must be awarded certification within 6 months of employment.
OR
Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience in Correctional Security with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Sergeant. Certificate requirements remain the same as above.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS- Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, drug screen, and other pre-employment testing prior to the appointment.
