PLM Analyst (Polarizing Light Microscope)

Job Description

The PLM Analyst prepares and analyzes environmental samples using scientific methodology in compliance with company Quality Assurance programs and SOPs. Sample analyses include air/bulk asbestos, among other tests. The analyst validates data, uploads results into the LIMS system, schedules workload, and receives training on current methodologies.

Responsibilities
  • Login, prepare, and analyze environmental samples for asbestos.
  • Accurately enter and report sample descriptions and analytical data using LIMS.
  • Perform independent QC analysis of other analysts' work.
  • Perform analysis of reference materials, proficiency samples, and other quality control samples as needed.
  • Maintain client service and provide technical support as needed.
  • Assist the QA manager with development, implementation, and collection of QA processes for different analytical tests.
  • Complete all analytical testing QA related tasks as required.
  • Assist in pursuing, receiving, and maintaining necessary laboratory accreditations.
  • Coordinate projects according to rush status and due dates for timely delivery.
  • Assist co‑workers with analytical questions, as necessary.
  • Follow company policies and procedures and ensure coworkers do the same.
  • Manage and dispose of analyzed samples as required.
  • Train new asbestos or other analytical testing analysts as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for errors and issues.
  • Maintain all equipment properly and coordinate maintenance services for laboratory equipment.
  • Communicate available capacity to the Lab Manager.
  • Support departments within the lab (login, asbestos, metals, pollen/spores) when appropriate.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Prepare and analyze bulk samples by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) following SOPs.
  • Perform all analyses and quality control measures in accordance with SOPs.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and calibration in accordance with SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Enter data into LIMS and report data to the client, verbally and electronically.
  • Store and dispose of client samples in accordance with SOPs.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Geology or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of laboratory experience.
  • Proficient with computers and relevant software.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors for analysis.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
  • Professional working proficiency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
Additional Information

This is a full‑time role requiring work on Tuesday to Saturday, 1:00 pm–9:00 pm, with training conducted Monday to Friday.

Compensation

$20 – $27 per hour, based on experience. Eurofins Environment Testing (USA) provides a compensation range for informational purposes. The actual base salary may vary based on experience, skill set, internal peer salary, business sector, and geographic location.
