Job Summary
The Raw Material and Supplier Control Technologist has overall responsibility for managing the supplier approval and monitoring system at Ballymaguire Foods. This role ensures that potential risks associated with raw materials and their suppliers are understood, managed, and communicated effectively to relevant departments. The Technologist oversees the approval of new suppliers and raw materials, monitors current suppliers and materials, manages changes in supply, handles non-conforming materials, conducts supplier site audits, and actively supports the technical team in maintaining high standards of product safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Supplier Approval and Monitoring:

  • Manage the supplier approval and monitoring system to mitigate risks to product safety, legality, authenticity, and quality.
  • Ensure all incoming goods and their suppliers meet Ballymaguire Foods’ standards through approval of new suppliers and ongoing monitoring of current suppliers and raw materials.

2. Change Management:

  • Manage and approve changes in supply and temporary changes in supply of incoming goods, communicating the status of these changes to relevant departments.

3. Documentation Management:

  • Review, approve, and maintain all relevant documentation related to raw materials used in BMF, ensuring it is up to date and contains all necessary information.
  • Reflect information on the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and make it accessible to required personnel.

4. Raw Material Reporting:

  • Manage and action all retailer requests on raw material reporting.
  • Handle all non-conforming raw materials, communicating issues back to suppliers and relevant departments in BMF.
  • Ensure all non-conformances raised are closed off efficiently and timely, assisting with solutions to any resulting issues.

6. Trend Analysis:

  • Trend all supplier non-conformances and share trends with all departments in BMF.
  • Inform the Technical/Quality Manager of any serious or noticeable trends with raw materials or their suppliers, highlighting any repeating issues to ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Conduct audits of supplier sites for current products, potential new products, and problematic suppliers.
  • Relay any concerns or major issues raised during audits back to the Technical/Quality Manager and Operations Manager.

8. Team Support:

  • Be an active and proactive member of the technical team, assisting with third-party audits and conducting internal audits as per the audit schedule.
  • Ensure proper closeout on any issues raised during audits and verify closeouts.
  • Initiate and participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to supplier management, quality assurance processes, and operational efficiency.

10. Communication and

Collaboration:

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on quality standards and regulatory compliance.

11. Training and Development:

  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance knowledge and skills in areas relevant to supplier management, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

12. Additional Duties:

  • Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field
  • Knowledge of HACCP & Food safety standards particularly BRC and retailer standards
  • Knowledge of food legislation and labelling regulations in Ireland.
  • Experience with supplier management and auditing processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent organisational and analytical skills
  • Experience in conducting internal and/or external audits is preferred
