From historic pioneer trails to Wyoming politics and the agricultural and mining interests that came to define the state early on – livestock, coal, gold, and timber. Fort Steele was occupied until August 7, 1886, by soldiers who were sent by the U.S. Government to guard the railroad river crossing and assist in the settlement of the West.
