Location: Ten Sleep
RANGE LIVESTOCK HERDER - LIVESTOCK PARTURITION
Period of intended employment:
02/15/2026 to 05/31/2026
Minimum of six (6) months experience.
Key Responsibilities- Available up to 24 hours per day, 7 days a week; spend majority of workdays on the range.
- Perform tasks related to livestock production during parturition season.
- Administer emergency minor medical care to sick or injured pregnant animals using roping methods.
- Assist with hauling water during winter or drought conditions.
- Assist with supplemental feeding when weather or forage quality precludes use of range forage.
- Attend animals in barns during kidding/lambing season.
- Attend livestock on the range during calving season.
- Attend to pregnant livestock and newborn offspring, including night checks.
- Care for newly born offspring and ensure they stand and nurse.
- Detect direction of prevailing storms and keep livestock gathered and safe.
- Intensely monitor and treat both mother and young vulnerable to cold temperatures and sickness.
- Keep accurate record of new offspring born.
- Lift and stack bales of hay and sacks of grain and mineral onto a feed truck or wagon.
- Make certain animals have access to fresh water.
- Monitor for birthing problems and take correct actions when problems are identified.
- Monitor young for disease, thrift, and weight gain.
- Move pregnant livestock at a pace sufficient to ensure they receive ample water and forage during daylight hours before bedding down at night.
- Report to employer signs of dehydration and other indicators of deterioration in animal body condition or behavioral changes indicating malnutrition or disease.
- Perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision.
- Spend the majority of work days on the range.
- Live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time.
- Ride, handle, and tend horses in a manner to assure the safety and health of the worker, co‑workers, horses, dogs, and livestock.
- Operate equipment and machinery required to perform job duties in a safe and responsible manner.
- Work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes, large game animals, biting insects, and extreme temperature.
- Attend animals during all hours of the day as required for their safety and well‑being.
- Maintain and manage remote housing locations safely and responsibly.
- Work with and around farm machinery such as tractors, UTVs, and ATVs for supplemental feeding purposes and movement of livestock.
- Handle animals using low‑stress handling methods.
- Train, work with, and care for herd‑working dogs and guard dogs.
- Work as part of a team when needed.
