Job Summary

The Intermediate Security Officer is a seasoned first‑response professional who performs a wide range of frontline security, fire and life safety, and risk management services for GTLC, its employees, and its guests. This position provides 24/7 coverage in guest activity areas and employee housing, responding to medical emergencies, de‑escalations, wildlife interactions, disputes, concerns, violations, and other common calls in a remote National Park environment.

Intermediate Security Officers respond promptly and professionally to guest and employee requests and emergency situations, recognizing that not all incidents fall strictly within departmental scope and utilizing strong communication skills to seek resolution through appropriate parties and established chain of command.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain situational awareness and represent GTLC and the Security Department with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment at all times.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to medical emergencies, safety incidents, de‑escalations, wildlife interactions, disputes, and violations in a remote National Park environment.
  • Provide consistent 24/7 security coverage in guest activity areas and employee housing.
  • Conduct routine patrols, inspections, and field assignments in accordance with departmental standards and expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with guests, employees, and team members to de‑escalate and resolve incidents.
  • Accurately document incidents, observations, and actions taken using digital reporting systems.
  • Follow chain of command and escalate incidents appropriately to Field Leads or the Chief of Security when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate’s Degree, preferred.
  • Possess the ability to maintain confidential information – both written and verbal.
  • Possess a current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Ability to obtain advanced emergency medical response certification upon hire.
  • Possess valid U.S. state driver’s license; successful completion of MVR.
  • Preferred experience with digital security software and digital reporting tools.
  • Functional use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Basic written communication skills (grammar and spelling).
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills and experience.
  • Absence of criminal record; absence of felony record.
  • Proven experience in effective de‑escalation and similar communication tactics.
  • Must present themselves professionally in all types of interaction including crowds.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Previous experience in loss prevention (specifically in hospitality and/or college setting), medical response, law enforcement desired.
  • Current certification in Advanced First Aid or equivalent.
  • Security personnel have a high degree of contact with guests in a wide variety of different situations ranging from pleasant cooperative efforts to adversarial situations.
  • Identify and help to correct energy, water, and solid waste usage (e.g. turning lights off; reporting water leaks; etc); report and correct wildlife attractants.
  • Identify and help to correct both employee and guest hazards and risks throughout the operations.
  • Provide coaching to employees on safe work practices.
  • Interact with NPS law enforcement rangers; enforce NPS mandated activities (e.g. wildlife attractants).
  • Protect the company from financial risk associated with hazards to guests and employees.
