Are you enthusiastic about hospitality, people, and beautiful places? By working at Yellowstone National Park, you will get all three! As a Fishing Guide, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day functions that keep the park running smoothly.

Job Summary: This position involves instructing guests on safety and fishing techniques, maintaining communication with shore stations, and providing information about Yellowstone's natural history. The role also requires maintaining the cleanliness of the vessel, managing passenger loads, and fostering positive relationships with coworkers, guests, and management.

  • Pay: $20.00/hourly
  • Schedule:

    Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts safe and lawful trips, ensuring passenger and crew safety in accordance with company and NPS (National Park Service) policies
  • Provides safety instructions, maintains radio contact, and manages passenger loads and order
  • Offers fishing guidance, including regulations, techniques, and equipment usage
  • Shares accurate information about Yellowstone's history, geography, and geology, answering guest questions
  • Maintains boat cleanliness, reports malfunctions, and handles fueling and securing of the vessel
  • Assists in scenic cruise and rental boat operations as needed
  • Completes required paperwork and maintains positive relationships with coworkers, NPS (National Park Service), and management

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old to operate a company boat
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with no high-risk violations in the past 3 years
  • Must possess your own reliable form of transportation to get to and from work (3 miles from Lake Village dorms)
  • Training provided for current CPR and 1st Aid certification
  • Must pass written and practical seamanship examinations
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of assigned equipment
  • Knowledge of safety, emergency, and life-saving procedures
  • Knowledge of NPS (National Park Service) boating and fishing regulations
  • Knowledge of weather patterns
  • Knowledge of rules and procedures for use of marine band radio
  • Public speaking and supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of park geography, geology, and history focusing on the Lake area
  • Must be able to instruct guests in fishing techniques to ensure the maximum possibility of success
  • Knowledgeable of how to clean and/or filet fish
  • Must be able to tie a proper Bowline and Cleat Hitch (Halyard) knot

Physical Requirements:

  • Must possess a current DOT Physical
  • Must be capable of lifting objects of up to 50 pounds
  • Must be capable of bending, lifting, and standing throughout a 10+ hour shift
  • Must have full function and usage of both hands
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (sun, rain, snow, etc.) for extended periods of time and provide proper attire for such weather conditions
  • Must be able to work at elevations in excess of 7700 feet
