General Description
Wyoming State Parks invites seasonal applicants to Curt Gowdy State Park, a 3,000+ acre refuge nestled between Laramie and Cheyenne. The park offers outdoor recreation, world‑class rock climbing, fishing, hunting, UTV’ing, hiking, and mountain biking, with more than 43 miles of trail. Seasonal staffing runs from mid‑May to mid‑September, with potential earlier start dates and longer fall extensions based on location and job type.
Both maintenance and fee staff positions are available, and camper‑trailer housing may be available for contingent staff.
Seasonal Visitor Services Associate – Fee Collector
- Greet visitors, collect admission fees, and provide excellent customer service.
- Answer visitor questions and provide pertinent information about the site.
- Handle monetary transactions, including fee collection and gift shop sales.
- Perform cash register reconciliation and restock gift shop shelves, tracking inventory.
- Answer the multi‑line telephone system and transfer calls to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with general administrative duties, reports, and data entry.
- Perform opening and closing duties, and cleaning and maintenance as needed.
- Provide janitorial services in the building and assist the Fee Supervisor with special projects and events.
- Assist all Laramie District sites with special projects and events.
Seasonal Maintenance Worker
- Perform routine building, grounds, and landscape maintenance, including minor carpentry repairs, painting, and mowing.
- Assist staff in construction, installation, maintenance, and renovation of grounds and buildings, including preventive maintenance duties.
- Clean and service restrooms, shelters, and buildings, and remove litter from grounds, parking lots, and other public areas.
- Operate and/or drive a variety of vehicles, including light and heavy equipment.
- Operate various maintenance equipment, including mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment required in daily operations. Utilize various hand and power tools.
- Follow proper handling and safety procedures when using cleaning chemicals and fuel products encountered in daily operations, including proper personal protective equipment.
- Provide excellent customer service. May interact with the visiting public, answering basic questions.
- Assist all Laramie District sites with special projects and events.
Preferences and Agency Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
Knowledge
- Detail‑oriented, accurate, and thorough in completing assignments/tasks.
- Good interpersonal skills allowing the ability to interact with visitors from around the world.
- Willingness to work on a variety of assignments every day.
- Experience handling money, cash registers, and retail sales.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to manage and complete multiple projects with variable timelines and scopes of work.
- Basic construction and maintenance knowledge.
- Basic operational knowledge of light and heavy equipment use, as well as hand and power tools.
- Basic safety awareness of equipment use.
- Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
