Wyoming State Parks seeks enthusiastic seasonal staff for summer positions at Sink Canyon State Park, near Lander, WY. Positions typically run mid-May through mid-September with hours varying per week. Limited housing may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

General Description

Join Wyoming State Parks for a summer of adventure and teamwork in Sink Canyon State Park, which features unique geological features, abundant wildlife, and world-class rock climbing. The park will require enthusiastic seasonal staff to support operations throughout the season.

Essential Functions

The listed functions are illustrative and may not include every function that could be performed at the job level.

  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service to staff and park guests.
  • Work independently and as a team to conduct daily operations.
  • May assist with feeding and care of live exhibit animals, including reptiles and small mammals.
  • Assist at the Visitor Center, answer questions, and operate computer/registers for reservations and sales.
  • Greet guests, answer visitor questions, and provide information about the site and surrounding area.
  • Engage with visitors through interpretive techniques to provide education and site orientation.
  • Handle monetary transactions for gift shop sales and campground reservations; operate computer/tablet for transactions.
  • Reconcile cash register after each shift; maintain a visually pleasing gift shop area and track inventory.
  • Answer a multi-line telephone system and transfer calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with general administrative duties, reports, and data entry.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, cleaning, and maintenance as needed.
  • Develop and present interpretive programs, guided hikes, and hands-on activities for guests of all ages.
  • Assist with development of non-personal interpretive content, including social media and interpretive graphics.
  • Assist with development and implementation of special events.
  • Provide janitorial services in the Visitor Center and campgrounds.
  • Perform routine building, grounds, and landscape maintenance; minor carpentry repairs and painting.
  • Assist staff with construction, installation, maintenance, and renovation projects.
  • Operate and/or drive a variety of vehicles, including light and heavy equipment; use maintenance equipment (mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, etc.).
  • Utilize various hand and power tools; ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and follow safety procedures for chemicals and fuels.
Qualifications Preferences
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills for working with staff and visitors from around the world.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to be flexible with work assignments and duties.
  • Willingness to work on a variety of tasks daily and perform routine tasks.
  • Experience in money handling and retail sales.
  • Experience in basic construction and the use of basic power and hand tools.

Special Requirements Physical Working Conditions
  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
