The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is actively seeking a Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Sheridan, Wyoming. This full-time position offers a fantastic opportunity for a skilled mechanic to make a real impact while working on automotive equipment and heavy-duty vehicles. In this role, you will be responsible for performing diesel and gasoline engine overhauls and tune-ups, as well as brake, steering, transmission, and hydraulic repairs to ensure all equipment remains in optimal working condition.

- Maintains and repairs trucks, plows, and various pieces of construction equipment.
- Evaluate mechanical problems, perform diagnostic tests, interpret the results, and decide the best course of action needed.
- Diagnoses and repairs special computerized equipment.
- Orders parts and processes payments.
- Schedules repairs of equipment.
- Hold safety meetings and provide training on the use of all shop equipment used in fabrication and machining.
- Runs reports to ensure that preventive maintenance is accomplished on equipment.
- Performs journey-level skilled machining and fabrication of hard and soft metal alloys.
- Acts as a supervisor in the absence of the supervisor.
Preferences: Preference may be given to those who have completed any equipment certification exams, skills in using fleet maintenance software, and specialized automotive repair training.
- Knowledge of basic computer operation.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of diesel, heavy equipment, and light-duty vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of electronic principles and how to use diagnostic tools.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques.
- Knowledge in decision-making.
Education & Experience Substitution: 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Heavy Mechanic
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Ability to obtain a CDL

Physical Working Conditions- Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. They must report to the Department Shop within 30 minutes of receiving the call. Acceptance signifies awareness and compliance. Failure to be available without an acceptable excuse may lead to disciplinary action and possible dismissal.
