General Description

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join the Employment Tax Division as a Senior Auditor in Cheyenne. In this role, you will support Wyoming employers and ensure compliance with state laws. As a Senior Auditor, you will conduct payroll audits, assist employers with reporting requirements, collect overdue reports and payments, and help ensure compliance with Unemployment Insurance and Workers’ Compensation statutes.

You will also serve as a trusted resource for employers and their representatives, providing guidance and support throughout the reporting and audit process.

This position offers the opportunity to work independently, build strong professional relationships with employers across the state, and contribute to programs that support Wyoming’s workforce and business community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works autonomously, under general supervision, within the assigned field district.
  • Responsible for the collection of past-due employer reports and monies.
  • Establish yearly and/or special audit schedules as assigned.
  • Plans the overall strategy for the expected conduct and scope of the audit.
  • Conducts payroll audits as assigned.
  • Investigate and gather evidence.
  • Prepares and submits audit reports and reviews audit work papers for accuracy.
  • Applies Wyoming state statutes and agency rules and policies.
  • Makes decisions that could potentially be defendable all the way to the Wyoming State Supreme Court.
  • Initiates and represents the agency in legal actions, including small claims court, as an expert witness in administrative hearings and court cases.
  • Prepares case files for legal actions and works with legal staff as necessary.
  • Assists employers and their representatives with filing reports and making payments.
  • Establishes relationships with other governmental and private entities both in and out of state to facilitate statute compliance.
  • Serves as a liaison for the Division to each community within the assigned district.
Preferences

Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of financial calculations.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques is necessary to conduct a thorough examination.
  • Knowledge of public speaking to present examination findings.
Education

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance)

Experience

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor II.

OR

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor II.

Physical Working Conditions
  • Occasional travel, mainly local and day trips with a State Vehicle, may be required.
