General Description

PositionThe WHP within WYDOT is seeking a Port of Entry Officer for the Port of Entry Program in Sundance, Wyoming. The WHP Ports of Entry enhance highway safety and help preserve the highway infrastructure while providing various services essential to commercial vehicle operations throughout the State of Wyoming.
Open Until FilledThe position is open until filled.
Essential Functions- Work the counter at Ports of Entry and inspect the paperwork of commercial carrier drivers.
- Weigh and measure trucks to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and statutes.
- Verify and issue permits to commercial carriers.
- Collect fees and maintain and reconcile a cash drawer daily.
- Engage in training with the lead officer learning the Port of Entry system's requisite policies and procedures.
- Become qualified to issue summons (citations) for violations of State Statutes regarding the safe and legal movement of commercial vehicles in Wyoming.
Multiple advancement opportunities include Officer, Special Officer, CVSA Inspector, Lead Officer, Port Supervisor, Port Region Manager, and opportunities such as Mobile Education and Enforcement Teams, Quality Control, Compliance Review, Office of Overweight Loads, Port of Entry Training Coordinator, and Towing and Recovery Program Coordinator.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- 1-3 years of progressive office communications experience, or an Associate's Degree (typically in Business).
- No prior experience required if an Associate's Degree is present.
Knowledge
- Knowledge and use of computers, typing, ten-key.
- Knowledge in evaluating and decision-making.
- Knowledge of state and federal commercial carrier rules, regulations, and statutes.
Preference given to those with computer skills.
Physical Working Conditions- Duties may be performed at the location and roadside with the mobile education and enforcement team.
- Position entails shift work specific to particular location.
- Work outside and in inclement weather at times.
