Position: Compliance Engineer 2026-00513

General Description

Air Quality Division (AQD) Compliance Engineer performs high-level, complex technical tasks related to air quality compliance assurance within several Wyoming counties. Inspects and evaluates wide ranging industrial facilities, processes, and emission control equipment. Works with industry personnel regarding design, construction, and operation of facilities to ensure regulatory compliance. Writes detailed reports based on evaluations. The selected candidate may be eligible for a hiring bonus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensures that facilities meet technical, policy, and regulatory requirements; recognizes and flags concerns; suggests modifications or improvements.
  • Confers with industry personnel to ensure goals are achieved and requirements met.
  • Performs feasibility analysis to ensure effective solutions.
  • Maintains documentation on projects.
  • Provides oversight and evaluation of engineering projects related to air quality and controls.
  • Reviews technical submissions, permits, reports, inspections, and monitoring data.
  • Applies professional judgment, engineering knowledge, and accepted engineering practices to evaluate industrial processes.
  • Conducts independent field work and inspections.

    Evaluates compliance reviews by facility staff, contract employees, and/or consultants.
  • Reviews progress and inspects corrective actions; may manage multiple complex projects for corrective actions or reclamation.
  • Observes and analyzes source sampling procedures used by facilities; provides corrective action when necessary to ensure compliance with established test methods and procedures; uses engineering principles and knowledge to evaluate results.
  • Develops and provides written reports, memos, and comments.
  • Works with the Attorney General’s Office and/or the AQD Stationary Source Compliance Program to provide support, materials, and/or technical expertise in legal actions or enforcement actions taken by the State of Wyoming, DEQ, or AQD as needed.
  • Analyzes and responds to public comments, observations, and complaints regarding emissions sources or facilities.
Qualifications
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in air pollution controls or industry processes related to air quality.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current principles of engineering.
  • Knowledge of industrial processes and pollution controls.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Air Quality rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge and ability to produce written reports concerning observations and compliance.
Education

Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)

Experience

0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Required.

Physical Working Conditions
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and work on a computer.
  • Typically, the employee may sit to perform the work. However, there may be some standing, walking, driving an automobile, etc.
  • Inspections may require ability to travel, work outside, climb ladders and/or catwalks, and navigate other potentially challenging terrain.
