General Description

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe and effective transportation system for the State of Wyoming. WYDOT is seeking a qualified OSHA Specialist to support and advance employee safety across District
3. This position coordinates closely with WYDOT’s Employee Safety Program to ensure district employees receive appropriate safety training and comply with WYDOT safety-related policies and procedures, as well as state and federal safety regulations. The OSHA Specialist plays a critical role in promoting a safe working environment for all WYDOT employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the WYDOT Employee Safety Program to implement safety initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with WYDOT safety policies, OSHA standards, and state and federal safety requirements
  • Develop, deliver, and document formal and informal safety training programs
  • Certify and instruct employees in required safety practices and procedures
  • Serve as a safety resource for District 3 employees and leadership
  • Represent District 3 on safety-related matters and initiatives
Work Location

This position is based in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and provides safety support and representation for all of WYDOT District 3.

Essential Functions
  • Ensures employees attain and apply all aspects of personal and workplace safety.
  • Collaborates with WYDOT supervisors and department management.
  • Takes proactive steps through site visits and incident investigations to ensure the district employees apply personal and workplace safety.
  • Collaborates with district facilities coordinator on annual informal inspections of all of the district's facilities.
  • Completes inspection reports and tracks documented deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Provides on-the-job training during routine and special surveys for inspections.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to correct identified hazards.
  • Assists reviewing current safety policies and procedures.
  • Attends and supports crew and job site safety meetings.
  • Prepares training materials and aids.
  • Coordinates training sites and schedules.
  • Provides guidance, training, and best practices.
  • Researches, develops, and proposes best practices in safe operating procedures and policies.
  • Assists in updating and developing WYDOT safety manuals and policies.
  • Creates and manages electronic forms and utilizes WYDOT's safety management and computer database systems.
  • Creates data analysis reports.
Qualifications
  • Preference may be given to those with OSHA 10.
  • Preference may be given to those with 30 Hours Instructor certification.
  • Preference may be given to those with First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant) certification.
  • Preference may be given to those with Hazardous Materials Specialist certification.
  • Preference may be given to those with knowledge of report writing.
  • Preference may be given to those with knowledge of the federal and state rules, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures regarding safety.
  • Agency requires applicant possess a valid driver's license.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of report writing.
  • Knowledge of federal and state rules, regulations, policies, practices and procedures regarding safety.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene and safety and their application.
  • Knowledge of safety inspection procedures.
  • Knowledge of accident investigation techniques.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 0‑2 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA)
    * OR* 3‑5 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA).
