About the RoleThe Director of Academic Resources and Learning Innovation provides comprehensive leadership for two essential instructional and academic support units: the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and the Library & Learning Commons, including the Hay Library, Testing Center, and Peer Tutoring/Writing Center. This position serves as Western's primary leader for institutional teaching excellence, faculty development, instructional innovation, library services, and student learning support.
The Director oversees all staff in both functional areas and reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The role requires high‑level strategic planning, strong technical competency, and exceptional interpersonal skills to support two distinct but interconnected missions:
- Center for Teaching & Learning – advancing instructional design, teaching quality, LMS digital accessibility, professional development, and educational technology integration.
- Library & Learning Commons – advancing academic resource management, information literacy, tutoring, testing services, and student learning support.
Duties & Responsibilities
Unified Leadership – Provide unified leadership for all CTL and Library & Learning Commons programs, personnel, services, and resources.
Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement – Lead strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts for teaching, learning, and academic support services.
Advisory Role – Serve as the primary advisor to the VPAA regarding faculty development, instructional technology, LMS accessibility, academic support, and resource needs.
Accreditation & Compliance – Ensure alignment with assigned HLC accreditation expectations, federal requirements (including ADA/Section 504/508 as it pertains to instructional materials), and Western strategic priorities.
Committee Representation – Represent Academic Resources and Learning Innovation on institutional committees and appropriate statewide groups (including WyDEC).
Reporting – Prepare annual reports, strategic updates, and analyses for the VPAA, President's Cabinet (as requested), and Board of Trustees (as requested).
Center for Teaching & Learning Leadership- Develop and implement comprehensive faculty professional development programs supporting online, hybrid, and face‑to‑face instruction.
- Oversee faculty badging pathways that recognize skill development in instructional design, teaching excellence, digital pedagogy, and educational technology.
- Provide leadership in instructional design, effective teaching practices, and the use of evidence‑based pedagogy.
- Support faculty through consultations, course reviews, design assistance, and strategic integration of new technologies.
- Coordinate new faculty onboarding and ongoing training in collaboration with School Deans.
