The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to Western students enrolled in Sociology and Criminal Justice classes taught within Western's service area. Western offers courses in a variety of modalities. Teaching in multiple instructional modalities is common. Sections may be offered as face-to-face, Internet, Hybrid, Hy-Flex, or Block sections. This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of students in the community college environment, including local business audiences seeking industry-training programs.
This individual's responsibilities will include teaching courses throughout the academic year.
Typical load is 30 credit hours per academic year; usually 5 courses per semester.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses, including, but not limited to Sociology and Criminal Justice.Provides quality learning experiences for enrolled students, in accordance with their needs and abilities, while maintaining the basic integrity of the course's standards and objectives. Motivates students through careful preparation of course materials, the use of effective teaching methodologies, and provides substantive feedback on assignments and discussions.Follows department objectives and criteria for each course, as well as the Curriculum Committee's guidelines regarding course syllabi. Evaluates student performance while considering these objectives and criteria.Teaches courses on dates and times as assigned by the School Dean. Provides leadership to adjunct and concurrent faculty on the design and delivery of common course content.Advise students clearly and effectively. Communicates requirements for Western graduation and for transfer to other regional colleges and universities. Contributes current advising information to the Western Advising Handbook and Course Shell, including Western curricula at the University of Wyoming and other regional universities. Attends annual advisor training sessions.Recommends course schedules to the School Dean and Department Chair. Mentors adjunct instructors as assigned. Revises existing courses to maintain currency and develops new courses as needed.Maintains an appropriate schedule of office hours that serve on-campus and distance education students. Develops effective working relationships with professionals in the respective school and with other employees in the college's service area. Utilizes advisory recommendations for curricular planning, recruitment, and other functions.Assists in the College's student recruitment program by cooperating with the Director of Admissions and Outreach, visiting area schools, encouraging students to attend Western, and promoting the value of the college.Stays current by attending conferences, seminars, and workshops, and by reading appropriate professional literature.Utilizes and refers students to campus resources as needed, including Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), College and Career Readiness, Peer Tutor Center, Mustang Central, Wellbeing and Accessibility, and the Library.Assists in developing a well-rounded, usable library collection in their discipline; teaches the proper use of library and internet resources.Contributes to Western's efforts for planning and improvement, including assessment of student learning, student engagement, strategic planning, and/or master planning.Participates actively in the College's Assessment Program, including Program Review.Works with the School Dean to develop an individual professional development plan that will be of mutual benefit to the individual and to Western. Completes all elements of the Faculty Evaluation Plan.Communicates clearly and effectively using the college network system, including college e-mail, word processing, and the advising modules; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.Serves as an ambassador of Western by speaking to stakeholders, answering specific inquiries,…
