Position: Office Support Specialist 2026-00377

Overview

The Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) seeks a full‑time, 40‑hour per week Office Support Specialist for the Laramie Field Service. The role supports the Probation and Parole Offices by performing routine and detailed clerical and administrative duties to maintain efficient office operations.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Act as a specialist in assigned program area, performing complex technical duties, including legal secretary responsibilities.
  • Lead or supervise moderate‑to‑complex program and operational support duties.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert; apply knowledge of programmatic and administrative requirements.
  • Resolve problems, make recommendations for improvement, and conduct research to improve office systems.
  • Coordinate general office functions such as budget, legal work, procurement, personnel, information systems, and fiscal duties; provide staff training.
  • Maintain electronic filing, coordinate with operators, and set up new operators for electronic filing.
  • Maintain financial records, verify statistical reports, assist with publishing reports, and analyze budgets.
  • Input data into databases, prepare reports, and verify computer systems and coded data for accuracy.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders; act as liaison between agencies.
  • Inventory and manage assets; handle light computer issues.
  • Screen visitors, interview customers, and refer clients to appropriate support agencies.

Physical Working Conditions
  • Employee may sit comfortably; may involve walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, and driving an automobile.
  • No special physical demands required.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree (typically in Business).
  • 0–1 year of progressive office or communications experience or equivalent knowledge; or 2–4 years of experience for substitution.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws; financial record‑keeping and reporting; employee supervision; and high‑level customer service.
  • Preferred: at least two years of office work experience and prior criminal justice exposure.
