Description:
The Skilled Nursing Facility Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides outstanding patient care and physical support for residents Activities of Daily Living (ADL). The CNA shall utilize knowledge of residents’ rights, legal/ethical concepts, communication skills, safety and infection prevention while performing the following: basic nursing skills, basic restorative skills, mental health and psychosocial skills, and nursing team member skills.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Nursing (SNF).
Responsibilities- Participates in patient and resident care through procedures within the scope of their training and practice, according to state and federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
- Assists in the preparation for admission for residents and prepares rooms for new admissions.
- Assists in and accompanies residents in admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures.
- Provides age and developmentally appropriate morning care, which may include bed bath, shower or whirlpool, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing residents, changing bed linen, cleaning overbed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the day.
- Provides evening care which includes hands/face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, freshening linen, and straightening rooms to ensure obstructions to movement is minimized. Follows residents Plan of Care.
- Notifies appropriate licensed staff when resident complains of pain.
- Provides post-mortem care.
- Assists RN/LPN/LVN in treatments and procedures.
- Using proper body mechanics and available resources; assists with care such as positioning, lifting, turning, ambulation, and applying/utilizing proper specialized equipment and tools to facilitate care. Assists in use of bedpan or commode and constantly checks for reddened areas or skin breakdown and reports to staff nurse.
- Performs all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Assists with recording vital signs, height and weight, Input and Output, and other data as assigned, and reports variances to staff nurses.
- Prepares resident for meals, distributes food trays, aids or feeds residents as needed being aware of dietary needs/restrictions of resident. Offers appropriate snacks and adequate hydration.
- Ensures residents are dressed properly and used clothing is properly stored in the dirty clothes hamper/bag. Ensures that residents are always clean and dry.
