GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees. We are now seeking Correctional Officers for the Wyoming Women's Center in Lusk, Wyoming! The Wyoming Women’s Center (WWC) was established in 1981. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for female inmates. WWC provides programming, vocational, recreational, and educational programs to allow the WDOC to reduce recidivism through cognitive and behavioral intervention.
This position is essential for maintaining the institution's safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position receiving the 20-year retirement and state benefits package.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- In order to maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following:
- Enforcement of rules and regulations.
- Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts.
- Modeling appropriate, pre-social behavior.
- Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate, pre-social behavior.
- Assisting in a variety of searches, including checking for contraband items.
- Observing daily inmate living, programming, work areas, and the perimeter fence line, reporting security violations.
- Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.
- Assuming duties of housing control centers, central control centers, and inmate living areas that monitor inmate movements.
- Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.
- Assisting in restraining unruly inmates, utilizing the minimum amount of force required.
- Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries, including inter- and intra-state predetermined destinations.
- Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the processing of released inmates.
- Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.
- REQUIRED:
All successful candidates will be required to complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment. - Must be at least 18 years of age,
- Must be a U.S. Citizen,
- Must have a valid driver's license,
- Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.
- Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting

PHYSICALWORKING CONDITIONS:
- Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre-employment testing prior to appointment
- Candidates must have the ability to work overtime as required, and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.
- FLSA:
Non-Exempt - All successful candidates will be required to complete an initial training period and be awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment.
- The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a Drug-Free Workplace. Per WDOC policy, all staff are subject to drug testing while employed by WDOC. Successful applicants for employment must pass a background/reference check, medical evaluation, and urinalysis drug test before appointment.
