Project Overview

Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on Terra Power’s Natrium team. This project supports the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, delivering a 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR) with integrated molten‑salt energy storage, expected to produce more than 500 MWe of power.

Job Summary

As the Project Field Quality Control Engineer (PFQCE), you will lead the Construction Field Quality Control Engineering program, directing a multi‑discipline team to ensure all quality control activities meet project, code, and corporate standards. You report directly to the Construction Site Manager and oversee material verification, technical inspection, surveillance, and subcontractor quality control.

Major Responsibilities
  • Manage the multi‑discipline nuclear quality control program to ensure compliance with project, code, and corporate requirements.
  • Develop and maintain the Quality Control Engineering organization structure, including staffing plans and employee requisitions.
  • Administer project quality control certification, training, and personnel evaluations.
  • Lead quality control engineers and coordinate with construction departments to maintain contract, industry, and government standards.
  • Direct quality control and inspection operations for assigned staff, ensuring procedures align with Bechtel functional requirements.
  • Generate site‑specific quality control procedures to assure construction activities conform to engineering design and specifications.
  • Review subcontractor documents and administer surveillance inspection programs over subcontractors.
  • Oversee nonconforming and deficient items program and provide guidance to the project organization on construction quality control programs.
  • Participate in major contract discussions and negotiations related to quality control activities.
Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s or master’s degree and 13‑15 years of related experience, or 17‑19 years related experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills
  • Knowledge of all phases of construction operations and field activities across engineering disciplines.
  • Direct hire execution experience on projects of $300 M or greater.
  • Five years supervisory experience.
  • Prior experience with U.S. Government nuclear power, DOE, or DoD construction projects as a Project Field Quality Control Engineer or Deputy PFQCE.
  • Working knowledge of design codes and standards (IBC, SMACNA, ASME, NFPA, NEC, ACI, ASCE, NQA‑1).
  • Preferred experience managing a multi‑discipline construction quality control organization on a large project.
