Principal/Dean/Head of School
This position will begin July 1, 2026. The role is split between Cottonwood Elementary School (0.75 FTE) and 4J Elementary School (0.25 FTE).
The principal is responsible for all aspects of the building, including instruction, curriculum, staff supervision and evaluation, staff development, student discipline, crisis preparation, record‑keeping, public relations, and maintenance of building and grounds.
Job Functions Essential Functions- Provides a safe and orderly environment.
- Ensures that student discipline is conducted in a manner consistent with school and district guidelines.
- Assumes responsibility for the overall operation of the school, including the physical plant.
- Maintains accurate records of attendance, student files, achievement, safety drills, special education, and other essential records.
- Prepares and administers the budget, ensuring proper accounting of all monies collected and disbursed.
- Supervises all non‑certified personnel in accordance with state and district policy.

- Communicates timely and straightforwardly with parents and the community.
- Recruits and retains a quality staff.
- Collaborates with district personnel to develop and sustain a quality curriculum.
- Assists in designing and implementing instructional processes.
- Monitors student achievement.
- Develops and implements an annual school improvement plan.
- Oversees supervision of all student activities and programs.
- Recommends contract status, re‑employment, or termination.
- Conducts yearly evaluations of all school staff.
- Builds positive relationships among all school personnel and stakeholders.
- Creates and sustains a climate of learning.
- Promotes best practices and innovation.
- Implements the CCSD Strategic Plan.
- Follows federal and state laws, and district policies and regulations.
- Recommends student expulsion to the board of trustees.
- Conducts follow‑up studies and crisis drills.
- Serves as a liaison to city, county, state, and national agencies.
- Attends and leads monthly staff meetings.
- Participates in district meetings and functions.
- Drafts and updates student and staff handbooks.
- Assists in planning and conducting ceremonial activities.
- Presents the school academic report.
- Manages the school improvement processes.
- Oversees building professional learning communities (PLC).
- Conducts formal observations of certified staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.
- Knowledge of curriculum and principles of learning.
- Knowledge of technology for student learning facilitation.
- Clear and concise verbal communication.
- Ability to weigh options, think clearly, and evaluate accurately.
- Understanding of diverse personality needs.
- Sound emotional judgment and decision making.
- Knowledge of child psychological and physiological development.
- Ability to assess teacher effectiveness through observation.

- Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree.
- Valid Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board certification as an Administrator or Director.
