The Department of Mechanical Engineering within the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Clemson University invites applications to fill a full-time, non‑tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of Professor of Practice with an anticipated start date in January 2026. The position runs on a renewable 12‑month appointment cycle.
The Professor of Practice will serve as lead coordinator for the department’s senior capstone program. Highly desirable candidates will have extensive industry experience in engineering roles. Primary duties include ensuring consistent student experience and outcomes for all capstone projects, identifying industry projects for student participation, and supporting course instructors to ensure ABET required standards are met. This position will also be responsible for pursuing and fostering industry relationships to create opportunities for student engagement.
Teaching responsibilities will include the capstone lecture and typically one other course each semester.
The ME Department has over 30 tenure-track/tenured faculty and 10 full‑time non‑tenure‑track faculty. Enrollment in ME includes 1,100 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students. Clemson University is a public, land‑grant institution classified as a R1 university by the Carnegie Foundation. The campus is located on the shores of Lake Hartwell in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in upstate South Carolina halfway between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC.
QualificationsSuccessful candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree or possess a master’s degree with at least 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. The candidates must have a passion for hands‑on teaching and communication skills to motivate students in a dynamic, interactive environment with an ability to effectively engage students.
