JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Structural Geology or Tectonics, beginning in the Fall semester of 2026. We seek a dynamic and innovative scientist who will develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research program and contribute to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We welcome applicants from all areas of structural geology and tectonics, including active tectonics and earthquake processes; plate boundary interactions; lithosphere-asthenosphere interactions; geochronology and thermochronology; interactions between tectonic and surface processes; and data integration and machine learning. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research complements and expands upon existing departmental strengths and addresses cutting‑edge questions about the structure and dynamics of Earth’s crust.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain a robust, externally funded research program.
  • Teach the department’s undergraduate course in Structural Geology and Tectonics, including field experiences, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s research area.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate, MS, and PhD students as well as post‑doctoral fellows in research and career development.
  • Collaborate in research and service roles with departmental faculty members, other researchers at UW, and both national and international partners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A PhD in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
