Overview

Summary:

The Lead Counselor is responsible for providing supervision, instruction, and ongoing assistance to camp counselors and campers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision, instruction, and ongoing assistance to counselors and campers.
  • Assign/oversee staff tasks; supervise and implement assigned programs to campers.
  • Responsible for assessing and making recommendations to the Activities Director on program equipment and supply needs.
  • Communicate any arising issues within the program to the Activities Director in a timely manner.
  • Create a positive and professional environment while promoting program policies and procedures amongst staff.
  • Plans, leads, and implements camp programs for children.
  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the kitchen and camp site.
  • Facilitates and creates lesson plans for daily activities.
  • Organizes and leads various small and large group activities.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Prepares all meals and keeps track of dietary restrictions and allergies for all campers.
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including always knowing the whereabouts of campers and counselors.

Requirements
  • Education or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children or in a related field.
  • First Aid certification is a plus
