We are looking for an experienced surgical nurse to join our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit as a Sister / Charge Nurse. This is a senior clinical role where you will provide leadership on shift, regularly acting as Nurse in Charge and supporting the safe and effective delivery of patient care.

37.5 on rotation Monday to Sunday.

The post holder will coordinate the clinical shift, acting as Nurse in Charge when required, supporting safe patient flow, clinical decision making, and effective team working. They will supervise and support junior nurses and healthcare assistants, ensuring high standards of care, professional practice, and patient safety. Working closely with the Unit Manager and multidisciplinary team, the Sister / Charge Nurse will contribute to service development, quality improvement and the delivery of safe and effective surgical inpatient care.
The role is primarily based within the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit; however, the post holder may be required to support other surgical inpatient areas depending on service needs.

- Lead and coordinate the ward when acting as Nurse in Charge
- Support the delivery of safe, high quality patient‑centred care
- Oversee patient admissions, discharges and transfers
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance to Band 5 nurses and healthcare assistants
- Monitor patient progress and elevate concerns when needed
- Support ward rounds, handovers and multidisciplinary communication
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
- Promote safe practice and maintain infection prevention standards
- Support incident reporting, learning and quality improvement
- Contribute to maintaining a positive, supportive team environment
- Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration
- Experience working in an acute surgical ward setting
- Confidence in coordinating a clinical shift and supporting junior staff
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to prioritise workload in a busy clinical environment
- Commitment to delivering safe, compassionate patient care
- Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern including days, nights and weekends
