Job Description

As a Claims Adjuster within our Crawford Motor Third Party Property Damage team, you will manage a portfolio of Highways and street furniture damage claims from cradle to grave. Reporting to the Team Leader for Highways, you will take full ownership of the claims lifecycle, from first notification through to settlement, ensuring fair, timely and commercially sound outcomes.

This is a specialist role handling third party property damage claims, often involving local authorities, highways agencies, contractors, insurers and other stakeholders. You will be empowered to make evidence-based decisions, assess legal liability and quantum, and proactively progress claims to resolution while delivering a high standard of customer service.

Although experience in Highways or street furniture claims would be beneficial, full training will be provided. We welcome applications from claims professionals who are keen to develop their technical expertise within a specialist claims environment.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of Motor Third Party Property Damage claims from initial notification to settlement.
  • Investigate claims thoroughly, analysing evidence, documentation and technical information.
  • Assess legal liability and quantum using sound judgement and evidence‑based decision making.
  • Negotiate settlements confidently with all parties to achieve fair and timely resolutions.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date claim records in line with SLAs and internal quality standards.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients, third parties and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to team productivity targets and support colleagues where required.
  • Take part in project work and continuous improvement initiatives, with opportunities to lead or contribute to process and system enhancements.
  • Alongside managing your own claims portfolio, you will have opportunities to support wider business activity, including continuous improvement projects, systems development and service enhancements. Ideas are encouraged, and there is scope to develop both technical expertise and broader responsibilities over time.
Qualifications
  • Experience working in a claims or insurance environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a varied caseload.
  • Excellent analytical and investigative skills.
  • Clear and confident communication and negotiation abilities.
  • A proactive, quality‑driven approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn within a specialist claims setting.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements and Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles.
  • A positive approach to teamwork and contributing to a supportive team culture.

Due to the nature of our business, this role is subject to a satisfactory basic DBS check.
